582412 IMAGE PROCESSING: Exercise 7, Spring 2003

Below you find five pairs of images. For each image on the left hand side, your task is to obtain its pair on the right hand side by using either gimp (recommended) or XV tools available at the CS Linux machines.

Download the package containing all the images here (use command: "tar -zxvf ew.tgz" to decompress the package).

The first and second pairs should be obvious (1 operation/image). In the third case, the temple area and the path leading to it should be represented by a few connected white pixel areas with sharp edges (the remaining pixels are represented by black values). In the fourth case, the front right tyre and the grid in the front mask of the car are put out (emphasized). These two cases do not need more than two operations/image. In the fifth case, the task is to remove the red color (but retain some intensity information) caused by a flash light from the girl's eyes.

Figure out how to make the required operations either by using gimp or XV and email a detailed description what you have done in each of the cases to Jenni.Valorinta@cs.helsinki.fi by 26th March 2003, 23:59.
