What is PICSearch (in general)?

• PICSearch (Platform for Image Content-based Searching algorithms) is a system developed for interactive image retrieval.
• It has been implemented by student groups having their software project course.
• The primary aim of PICSearch is to provide a platform for algorithm developers. When several retrieval algorithms are embedded in the system, it is also a versatile image retrieval tool.
  
  
• PICSearch is EXTENDIBLE:
  • It highly supports modularity. Thus, e.g. the database interface module can be replaced by more efficient implementation.
  • Embedding of new retrieval algorithms is straightforward.
• PICSearch is PORTABLE:
  • System-dependent code is kept to its minimum
  • Uses only standard C++ and Tcl/Tk
• PICSearch is FREELY AVAILABLE:
  • It is distributed under the GNU General Public License.

What is Happening in the Near Future?

• Improvements:
  • External query algorithms,
  • Uses GNU database manager (GDBM),
  • Improves Client-Server Communication,
  • Some fixing and dead code removing.
