In the wake of the security hole that necessitated disabling character set settings in .htaccess, the default character set for the department WWW server has been changed to UTF-8. This is a sane default these days anyway, as it matches the default locale of the Cubbli systems and is also otherwise generally useful for any language.

If you need to serve content in iso-8859-1, you may add a ".iso8859-1" extension to the file name and make sure the WWW server has read access to the directory. The extra character set extension is not required to be visible in the URL.

Alternatively, recode any old iso-8859-1 content into utf-8 with "recode iso-8859-1..utf-8 filename"

Apologies for the sudden change, but as things were broken now regardless due to the security issue, it makes sense to go the whole hog.

Turvaongelman seurauksena jouduttiin estämään .htaccess-tiedoston merkistöasetukset, joten samantien vaihdettiin WWW-palvelimen oletusmerkistöksi UTF-8. Tämä on nykyään järkevä oletus joka tapauksessa, sillä se täsmää Cubblin oletusmerkistön kanssa ja on käyttökelpoinen kaikenkielisille sivuille.

Vanhaa iso-8859-1-materiaalia voi tarvittaessa palvella lisäämällä tiedostonimiin ylimääräinen ".iso8859-1"-pääte ja varmistamalla, että WWW-palvelimella on hakemistoon lukuoikeus. Lisätiedostopäätettä ei tarvita URL-osoitteissa.

Vaihtoehtoisesti vanhan materiaalin voi muuttaa utf-8:ksi esim. komennolla "recode iso-8859-1..utf-8 tiedostonimi"
