Department of Computer Science at the University of Helsinki is looking for

RESEARCH ASSISTANT / DOCTORAL STUDENT

in Computational Linguistics/Natural Language Processing.

The NLP group at the Department of Computer Science, University of Helsinki is looking for a student to work as a programmer in cutting-edge international projects. Our Uralink/Etymon project is about analyzing etymological data for the Uralic language family, to determine genetic relationships among language, in cooperation with other European institutes. The project provides an excellent basis for MSc or PhD degree work.

Requirements:
1. Strong programming skills.
2. Mathematical background: solid understanding of fundamentals of
analysis and fundamentals of probability theory is a must.
Fundamentals of information theory is a big plus.
3. Strong interest in computational analysis of language.

The contract offered will be initially for 12 months with extension pending on the availability of funding at that time. The salary will be based on Universities' salary system (YPJ).
