Summer 2012 SE project proposals

It is time to start giving project proposals for the student software engineering projects of Summer 2012. Please send your proposals to avihavai@cs.helsinki.fi no later than on Friday March 30th, 2012. Please do not hesitate to contact for more information.

A typical student software engineering project has 3-5 students and a client (you). The client gives requirements for a software package that the students implement together. A good project is simple to define and yet complex enough so that it requires all team members to work together.

There are two types of software engineering projects. Shorter projects last seven weeks (week 20 to week 26) during which the students must work intensively without any other commitments (e.g. studies, work, ..). The normal project lasts fourteen weeks (week 20 to week 33).

We accept mainly prototype systems and systems with no legacy overhead as single period projects. Please inform us about your preference on the project length.

We accept the following types of proposals:

1. Teaching-related proposals (client is a lecturer),
2. Proposals based on someone's own research (client has at lest a licentiate degree or is a PhD student), and
3. Proposals from companies or communities (client is authorized to submit a proposal).

Note that all work done in the project will be released under an open-source license (for example Creative Commons, Gnu GPLv2, ...).

Please send your proposals to avihavai@cs.helsinki.fi with the subject "OhTu: Project Proposal".
