Kurssin sisältö, materiaali ja opiskeluohjeet on kuvattu kurssikuvauksessa.

Mikäli haluat opiskella vaadittua koetta varten omatoimisesti, seuraa opiskeluohjeiden moduuleja omaan tahtiisi. Tässä tapauksessa kannattanee ensin lukaista kurssikirjan olennaiset luvut kevyesti läpi ja perehtyä erikseen valittuihin teemoihin moduulijaon mukaisesti tarkemmin. Yleisin ongelma materiaaliin yksin tutustuttaessa on liiallinen pinnallisuus tenttivastauksissa: vaikkei ulkolukuun kannustetakaan, on syytä jo etukäteen pohtia, mitkä asiat oppimispäiväkirjaan asti kannattaa purkaa ja selvittää. Oppimispäiväkirjoja saa lähettää kurssin vastuuhenkilöille kommentoitavaksi, esimerkiksi kokeeseen valmistautuessa.

Mikäli käyt luennoilla, on syytä tutustua nimettyyn materiaaliin ennakolta, (lähettää sähköpostina kyseisen kerran oppimispäiväkirjamerkinnät luennoijalle etukäteen) ja erityisesti varautua osallistumaan oppimispäiväkirjakysymyksiä purkavaan keskusteluun yhdessä muiden kurssilaisten kesken. Joitakin asioita esitellään nopeampitempoisesti perinteisemmän lyhyen luennon keinoin. Luentorytmi tulee kurssin edetessä näkyviin tälle sivulle. Oppimispäiväkirjoihin annetaan palautetta a) yleisistä ongelmakohdista luennolla, b) yksityisesti sähköpostivastauksina. Oppimispäiväkirjatehtäviin ei tule "mallivastauksia"!

The lecture sessions are interactive, but unfortunately only in Finnish. To support self-study in English, there is a defined set of learning modules with working instructions for learning diaries. You are wellcome to follow the lecture rythm - or your own working rythm - and submit your learning diary entries for comments and feedback. Send email to the course lecturer for that. The learning diaries are voluntary, and produce now credit on their own, but do help you in preparing for the exam. The most common problem in exam answers is that they stay in too superficial level; you are encouraged to dig into some detail on motivations, solution architectures, challenges, alternative solution protocols and information contents. Use the learning diary feedback to find the right level!

The compulsory part for taking the course this year include

• exam in the end of the course; the exam covers the textbook chapters described at course descrition page
• essay as agreed with the course assistant; instructions and examples of potential topic areas (by 2006, will be updated during the autumn) available at the seprate essay instructions page; new topics will be defined closer to the essay writing period;
• a seminar day in the end of the coursework for each essay to be presented in a 40 minute session containing presentation and discussion.

Lectures and exam take place in period I, most of essay writing and the closing seminar in period II.
