Research

The BeTelGeuse software can be used in such devices as mobile phones and PDAs. It gathers data on user context, such as location and heart rate, with the help of such sensory devices as GPSs and advanced heart-rate monitors. The data can be used to adapt the applications according to the situation.

The focal points of research at the Department of Computer Science in 2006 were data analysis and mobile computing, while branching out into such new fields as bioinformatics and language technology. The department hosts the Basic Research Unit of the Helsinki Institute for Information Technology, and the Finnish Academy national centre of excellence From Data to Knowledge.
