Prof. Sasu Tarkoma and MSc Eemil Lagerspetz have published an article titled "Arching over the Mobile Computing Chasm: Platforms and Runtimes" in the IEEE Computer magazine. After being published for over 40 years, this is the most read journal in computing besides Communications of ACM.

The article surveys and discusses the evolution of mobile platforms. The succinct lead says:

"Platforms, runtimes, and middleware play a vital role in an evolving mobile computing environment in which the trend is toward converged communication, where Web resources integrate seamlessly with mobile systems."

The article is part of the teaching material of the Mobile Middleware course at the department.
