FLORA DAY STAFF PARTY

The Flora Day Staff Party for the employees of the university will be
organized at the Kumpula Science Campus on Friday, 13 May, 2011 starting
at 16.30 in the Physicum building. After speeches by Rector Thomas Wilhelmsson
and Dean Keijo Hämäläinen a buffet is served in Chemicum at 17.00. The
evening continues in Physicum with programme, dance and music at
18.00-21.00.

You can also visit departments and institutes in Kumpula. Visit e.g. the
Accelerator Laboratory where radiation measurements in materials physics
research and measurements of natural background radiation from the
environment are demonstrated. Meeting at 15.00 in the Accelerator
Laboratory, Pietari Kalmin katu 2.

SMEAR III Field Measurement Station for urban meteorology and air
chemistry and air physics. Meeting at 15.00 in the field measurement station,
situated between the Accelerator Laboratory and Finnish Meteorological
Institute.

The university sports services will organize measurement of pressing force and
percentage of fat as well as a balance test at 15.00-16.00 in Physicum.

Programme in CHEMICUM
The Finnish Institute for Verification of the Chemical Weapons Convention
(VERIFIN), Laboratory Manager Harri Koskela: The Chemical Weapons
Convention and operation of the institute. Conducted tours will leave the
Main hall of the Department of Chemistry at 15.00 and 15.30.

A glimpse of the electron microscopes (SEM and FIB/SEM), University
Lecturer, Docent Marianna Kemell, PhD Marko Vehkamäki and Professor Mikko
Ritala: Electron microscopes serve the whole university. Learn what kind of

information they produce and how we can use them in practice.
Conducted tours will leave the Main hall at 15.00, 15.20 and 15.40.

ChemistryLab Gadolin, Coordinator Marja Happonen: Introduction of the
learning environment that is based on the cooperation of the University,
companies and the school world. We conduct a short study on the
cleanliness of different surfaces with the help of a luminometer.

Conducted tours from the Main hall at 15.00, 15.20 and 15.40.

Measurings of the radioactivity of human beings, PhD Pirkko Hölttä:
Measuring of the radioactivity of the entire human body and radioactivity
of the environment. Three groups of 10 people from the Main hall at 15.00,
15.20 and 15.40.

Kumpula manor is open for visitors at 15.00-16.15.
