The Helsinki University Supervisor of the Year campaign organised by the staff association at the University of Helsinki is an old tradition. Ever since the start of it, the Chancellor has been the protector of the campaign.

WHO WILL BE SUPERVISOR OF THE YEAR 2011 AT THE UNIVERSITY OF HELSINKI
We all contribute to make this a good work community. Supervisors have a key role in developing a good atmosphere in the work community. In a good work environment

- individuals are appreciated
- the work community is creative, and
- initiatives are welcomed,
- personal assessments and feedback is given,
- when someone fails, they get help and support,
- improvements on the individual level are noticed and rewarded,
- the physical and psychological load are kept at their optimum level, and load peaks levelled out.- the identity of the work community is strong and it works together towards common goals that have been set together.

The physical work environment should also be healthy, safe, and comfortable. The team should be proud of its work environment!
If you have a supervisor who is inspiring, exemplary, flexible, coaching, methodical, and supports the employees, this is the person we are looking for. Also if they
make sure that communications work in your office, feedback is given, dialogue happens, information is not kept secret, no one is isolated, participation systems work, conflicts are recognized, but not allowed to paralyze the work community, but they are dealt with and solved. In addition to all this, the supervisor also makes sure that the work community can assess its own activities together, and can change and improve.
Employees at the University of Helsinki can make proposals for the Helsinki University Supervisor of the Year 2011.
The free-form proposals must include the following details: the name, title, and unit of the person who is proposed for the title, grounds for the proposal, and the applicant(s)’s name(s) and the date. Proposals from past years can be considered if they are confirmed in writing before the deadline.
