New collective labour agreement for universities valid from 1 March 2012 to 31 March 2014

The agreement applies to all employees of Finnish universities.

Parties to the agreement include the Sivistystyönantajat ry as the representative of the universities as
employers, and JUKO (Negotiation Organisation for Public Sector Professionals), JHL (Trade Union
for the Public and Welfare Sectors) and Pardia (The Federation of Salaried Employees) representing
the employees.

Salary increases of 2.4 and 1.9 per cent

Two salary increases will take place during the term of agreement. The first increase, 2.4 %, will be
paid in March 2012; the increase consists of a 1.7 % general increase and a 0.7 % instalment.
The instalment varies according to the work requirement level indicated in the salary system.

The second salary increase of 1.9 % will be implemented in two stages: a general increase of 1.2 %
will take place in January 2012, and an instalment of 0.7 % will be allocated later according to a
separate agreement. The instalment is intended to be used for developing the salary component
based on personal performance.

In addition, a lump sum of 150 euros will be paid in April 2012 to all employees whose employment
has begun no later than on 2 January 2012 and has continued with no interruptions until 31 March
2012.

The collective labour agreement also contains recommendations on the teaching duties of doctoral
students and on the work requirement level assessment of doctoral students and postdoctoral
researchers. The agreement also defines work-related rehabilitation as a salaried activity, and
provides further details on the stipulations concerning doctoral appointments.
