The landline phones have exchanged for mobile phones

All the landline phones at the department  have exchanged for mobile phones today  and the landline phones have stopped working.

In your pigeonhole in the mail room, you will find a new mobile and sim
card. Please note that the little micro-sim (the part with the white
edge) goes into the phone after you detach it by pressing from the
larger mini-sim card. You need a bit of muscle to detach the back cover.

With your phone package, you will receive a receipt for the mobile
phone, which you must fill in and return in its envelope to the
switchboard.

There are cardboard boxes in the mail rooms for the old phones.

If there is no mobile in your pigeonhole?

This might be because only one desk GSM phone, which looks very much
like a landline phone, has been ordered for some offices.
Such offices are
A213 (research programme office),
A214 (docents’ office),
A215 (HIIT maintenance),
A242 (part-time teachers),
B333, A330. A338, A339 (HIIT group offices),
DK115 (students’ room)
These rooms only have one phone number for all its dwellers. We have
ordered an additional mobile for some of the people in these offices
(such as the research assistants in the part-time teachers’ office).

People who already have a mobile (either a department smartphone or a
mobile from the switchboard) have naturally not received another mobile.

If you do not belong to either above-mentioned group, and you have not
received a mobile in your pigeonhole, please contact Teija Kujala (the
phones of some people may still be on the way, but we will find out
what’s going on for every unclear case).

What do I do if I’ve received a mobile that I don’t want?

Please contact Teija Kujala. HIIT staff may also contact Päivi
Kuuppelomäki.

The university’s phone number, 09 1911, will change into 0294 1911, and
all the extensions will take the form 02941 xxxxx (e.g. 02941 22365).
This will not happen until spring. At the moment, the estimated time is
24 April 2014, but it may change. It will be announced when the time has
been established for sure.

The implementation is based on the invitation to tender started by Hansel on 1 April 2010, for a governmental telephony solution. Based on the bids, Elisa Oyj was selected to deliver the solution.
The University of Helsinki joined the Hansel telephony solutions framework in 2012. In 2013, the delivery of phone services will be added to the contract.

This is a new generation of implementations, where the switchboard is connected directly to the mobile network. The mobile switchboard offers the same services as the present switch, such as secretarial services, voicemail, queuing, call pick-up, etc.
The new solution does not require the university units to make investments. The facilities and properties unit will exchange the landline phones for basic mobile phones. Units can acquire smartphones out of their own budget. It is also possible to get smartphones as service terminals (€/month).

From 1 January 2014, the mobile phone bill will include a basic tariff (2€/month/subscription).

Telefaxes will be replaced by either direct lines or e-faxes in multifunction printers. The number will be reduced considerably.

If you have any questions regarding the phones, please contact Teija Kujala
