Mavis home

Introduction

This is a homepage for Software Engineering Project Mavis that was held during the spring 2006 at the Computer Science Department of the Helsinki University.

The purpose of Project Mavis was to be a continuation to Project SQUID which was also a Software Engineering Project held a year earlier in spring 2005. Project SQUID was a success in that it produced as a result a fully functional controller/user interface for SQUID magnetometers. The software was named as Ikayaki and it has since been in extensive use at the Geophysics Department of the University of Helsinki.

While Ikayaki proved to be quite solid piece of software it still had some (mostly minor) bugs in it that needed to be fixed. Also in addition to fixing all the found bugs in Ikayaki Team Mavis added many new features to it and designed and implemented a new analysis software that can be used to analyse measurement data created by Ikayaki. This new analysis software was named as Mavis (short for Magnetism Visualization) and it shares the same look and feel as Ikayaki.

Both Mavis and new version of Ikayaki are free softwares that are released under GNU General Public License.

Binaries and source code for both softwares can be downloaded from the downloads section.
